About Wende

During her 26-year, award-winning career as a journalist and communication/public relations professional in the public, private, government, financial, and nonprofit sectors, Wende Schwingendorf has brought to the forefront stories important to New Mexicans – economic development, financial literacy, healthcare, education, public safety, and water and land issues.

Currently, Wende works for a locally owned and operated credit union, helping New Mexicans gain financial education and literacy skills, and is honored to tell the stories of area nonprofits making a positive impact in our hometowns statewide through the credit union's philanthropic arm.

Wende is a lifelong Bernalillo County resident and hails from two Kirtland Air Force Base families – her father, who served in the U.S. Navy, and her grandfather, a U.S. Air Force veteran. Her mother and stepfather are retired from local healthcare and construction industries in Albuquerque; her brother and sister are educators in the state of Indiana. Wende is engaged to Mark, a former industrial electrician, who received the gift of a double-lung transplant in August 2019. They live in Ventana Ranch with their two dogs, Bella and Bandit.
